Wilmington holds 6 listings and is the more varied pool. New Castle County carries the corporate, chemical and pharmaceutical weight: the DuPont Experimental Station and the Delaware Innovation Space that now operates on it, the successor chemical and agricultural-science companies, a growing pharmaceutical presence, and the University of Delaware's engineering and composite-materials research a few miles down the road in Newark. The listings reflect that mix. Some are reprographics and copy businesses that added additive as a service line; others are prototyping labs and small engineering shops, including at least one that serves the Philadelphia corridor from a Wilmington address.

Dover holds 5, which is a lot for a city of Dover's size and tells you something. Dover Air Force Base is one of the largest air-cargo installations in the Department of Defense, flying and maintaining a strategic airlift fleet; that plus state government and central Delaware's agricultural processing industry produces steady, unglamorous demand for fixtures, tooling aids and replacement parts. The listings include a dedicated additive-manufacturing business, a prototyping and design service, and — the outlier worth noticing — a Multi Jet Fusion operation, which puts powder-bed nylon inside the state rather than at the end of a subcontract chain.

Southern Delaware has no listed provider yet. Sussex County's poultry and food-processing plants and its coastal marine trade generate real demand, and it is currently served from Dover, about an hour north on US-113, or from across the Maryland line. Delaware is the one state where the honest advice includes leaving it. Wilmington sits about 30 miles from Philadelphia and roughly 70 from Baltimore, and southern Delaware is closer to Salisbury than to its own capital. That puts three states' worth of capacity inside a comfortable drive:

Match the material to where the part lives.
